I would like to bring to your attention the art of DecepticonFlamewar :icondecepticonflamewar:
Her art is very special for many reasons, the first of which is that she creates it entirely using Art Academy: Second Semester on her Nintendo 3DS. I myself have this software and it is a lot more limited than software 'better' artists use, and yet she is able to create pieces on and above par with said artists. She also puts her heart and soul into everything she makes, and pushes the person observing her work to look deeper and search for what she really meant when she created it.

THIS BIRD'S SHELTER IS COMPOSED OF METAL PSI-DING by DecepticonFlamewar

This Bird's Shelter is Made of Metal Psi-ding is made up of bright colours that bring a cheerfulness to the dark and stormy sky outside. There's some extremely nice colour transitions on Psi, especially on the right part of his body armour, and Tyra has made Cream look so happy even in the face of such a miserable day that we wonder if even we, too, can be strong enough to find light in the face of darkness.

Echidna Week 2: The Art Academy Guy Bought It by DecepticonFlamewar

Echidna Week 2 is a very beautiful example of working past the limitations. The flower is extremely bright and contrasts well against the darker colours of the hat, and she has managed to make a screen not much larger than a playing card look so much bigger than it is. Stunning use of light and shadow really bring this picture to life.

The Right Reasons - For Indiana by DecepticonFlamewar

The Right Reasons is an excellent example of the 3D effects she is able to create with just her stylus and touchscreen. The sliders, the switches, and the button all stand out strongly against the panel, and this is an intended effect. She has to mix each colour separately when a lot of us can just choose from a colour wheel or lower the opacity of an airbrush.

Poor Cyra by DecepticonFlamewar

Poor Cyra is the epitome of subtlety. First you're hit with the bright orange of the character. Then you take in her eyes. Very small lines, utilitarian lines almost, create a look of poignant pain on her face, and the very light shadow on the wall only adds to the painful sense of loneliness. Whenever I look at this, I feel as if she's asking me to save her. Not only that, but this is a Sonic the Hedgehog fan character, and this only adds to the astonishing impact. You would never be able to pin this down as a fan character unless you ask Tyra herself.

Testing the Berzerk Gene by DecepticonFlamewar

Made mostly out of shades of grey and purple, Testing the Berzerk Gene also manages to stand out simply because of how skilfully Tyra has used contrast here. She painted in a dark background, which really brightens the character and makes you take a closer look. And once your eyes curve around the tail you see just how stunning she has applied light gradients, a beautiful natural-looking transition from light to dark without a filter.

Clearly Distinct by DecepticonFlamewar

Clearly Distinct stands out simply because of the tremendous amount of detail placed on getting the hair to look natural. As the artist herself said, "I've never had quite so many different shades of green on my palette!" As I mentioned, she can't just pick and choose from a colour wheel, she has to create each and every colour she needs and then use them all to paint out the vision she sees in her head. And even then she has just 20 colours she can place in her palette, and so has to delete some to make room for others. Quite a daunting task in and of itself but she pulls it off brilliantly.

Are You Ready to Call It Yet? - MAMA Scared Stiff by DecepticonFlamewar

Are You Ready to Call it Yet is marked mature for blood, but don't let that stop you from looking at it.  You will be rewarded with a stunning, frightening portrayal of a woman in trouble.  The piece creates a sense of desperation and the perspective is especially well drawn.

Not only is DecepticonFlamewar an amazing artist, she is an equally talented writer. I include the first chapters of two of her stories and the thumb for a one-shot. All three are Sonic the Hedgehog stories, but do not let that stop you from reading. Tyra takes Sonic and his fellow characters and breaks them down to their lowest, then builds them back up again with suspense so powerful you have to keep reading. This is coming from someone who almost refuses to read fanfiction. In fact one story Tyra wrote was a long multichaptered fic and I read it all in one go, and I had not read fanfiction in a very long time. That is how good of a writer she is.

Mature Content

The Wrong Thing is marked mature but that is merely because Tyra is very cautious and protective of other deviants. This story is a stunningly in-depth look at Dr Eggman and his inner motivations, his fear of failure, and his drive to succeed. It is chock full of symbolism and breathtaking descriptions, and at the end the reader is left with a strange sense that they, too, have just walked the same road and come out clean.

Pretense in the Mirror: Prologue: Holoska Night
Author's Note
Thank you for looking at this piece!
This is a reimagining of Shadow the Hedgehog, the 2005 Sonic platformer/shooter. It's being told with a framing tale of Sonic recounting the events to another character from Sonic Unleashed. As a result, the following Sonic games will be spoiled:
Sonic Adventure 2 (major)
Sonic Heroes (major)
Shadow the Hedgehog (major)
Sonic Unleashed (minor)
This story is going to contain violence comparable to that in the game itself, which had earned an E10 rating, but possibly far more disturbing in context. There is also mild sexually suggestive content in the form of Rouge the Bat and Amy Rose, but that isn't the reason this is getting an M rating.
Lastly, the first few chapters of this story will be very similar to the beginning of Shadow's game. Each chapter will deviate a little more than the previous. I would be grateful for your patience, but by no means do I expect it.
Trigger Warning
This story contains a nu

Pretense in the Mirror is Tyra's reimagining of what really went on during the game Shadow the Hedgehog. She takes the reader through a long winding road of strange revelations and a dawning realization that you're not reading what you thought you were reading. Tyra writes the voices of her characters exceedingly well, and when the end comes around you are left satisfied and convinced by what you have just read. The entirety of this story is not on dA yet because Tyra is currently in the final editing stages, but the story is complete and she will be updating as per her personal updating schedule.

Leave It To Me: Chapter One: The Morning
Author's Note
This is a Sonic the Hedgehog fanfic, set in the game universe. Sonic belongs to Sega, obviously, and so do most of the people in here.
This contains spoilers for most of the Sonic games, but especially Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic Unleashed/Sonic World Adventure.
This story will also contain:
* moderate comic violence
* Non-violent, accidental injury
* Swearing
* A frank discussion of drug use's effect on society
* A frank discussion of domestic violence. Hetero and yaoi pairings are mentioned, but no shipping is actually present
* Horrible customer service
* Pink Socks
* Fan characters in supporting roles
If any of these things bother you, turn back now. :)
I'll make a better version of the preview image soon, I swear.
Leave It to Me
Chapter One: The Morning
I rolled over and sighed. It was gonna be a beautiful day.
The sun was shining on my face, warm, though not as warm as the soft flannel sheets

Leave it to Me is, at first glance, a simple comedic "Murphy's Law" fic, where Sonic goes out to the grocery store to get Tails some medicine for his cold. Things quickly become much more complicated and twisted then Sonic ever thought they would be, and while he's busy figuring out how to solve all his problems Tyra quietly adds themes and symbols while he's not looking. These add greatly to the tale and bring it to a much more satisfying conclusion when Sonic finally does get back home, because you have both read a funny story and you have learned a few things along the way. A key feeling one gets after reading this story is a sense of empowerment. This story is also not complete on dA yet, but it too is finished and is uploaded weekly.

Tyra is a brilliant artist with a unique style that definitely stands out, and she is also a careful and thoughtful writer who makes every word count.  I encourage you to check her out!

Wow. Thank you so much. I feel really special, and a little guilty I did a themed entry instead of one for you. ^^*
